Califorina Breakaway 2019

California Breakaway is an incredible Easter Break trip for high-school students in Saskatchewan.   This year we took 3 bus loads of kids down to southern California for 10 days.  On this trip they were able to experience California beaches, great shopping, iconic California locations and amusement parks like Disneyland, Universal Studios and Six Flag.  This year we even had the opportunity to attend a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game. This trips is not only an exciting and fun way to spend your Eastern break but we see the hope and potential in every young person and we uniquely build into every student both socially and spiritually.

This was my first time being a leader on the trip. It was a great experience as I did attend the trip as a high school student. There were many very cool moments where I was able to stop and reflect on how far God has brought me since 6 years ago when I was on the trip. I have been through so much and God has been true and faithful every step of the way. I even remember on sitting at the beach in San Diego, with tears in my eyes talking with a leader because I knew that I wanted a relationship with God but when I would return home, that my life would not change. Little did I know that God was working and putting people in my life that would forever change the trajectory of my life. So being a leader on the trip 6 years later has been a true testament of God’s grace and perversion.

My highlight from the trip would have to be the young men that I had the honour of being a small group leader of.  I was blown away but how honest, transparent and genuine these guys were.  We made instant connections and had some very real conversation about life and faith.  I look forward to building upon the relationship that were started on the trip.
