transition after 29 years of ministry with SYFC

The vision of Saskatoon Youth for Christ is that every young person in the Saskatoon area would have the opportunity to become a follower of Jesus Christ.  For the past 29 years, I and my wife Alison, have dedicated our lives to this end.

Our journey with YFC began with ministry to high school students and then for the last 21 years I have served as Executive Director. For the past two years I have had the growing sense that the time of my leadership here is coming to an end. This decision has not been easy nor lightly made, but after seeking counsel from our Board, the National Office and other close advisers,I feel convinced in my heart that now is the time to move on.

This past fall, during a message on faith, my pastor Bruce stated that 'faith' is like letting go of the rope and not knowing where you are going to land. That comment struck a chord with me and seemed to me what God was directing me to do.  Throughout this journey, God has given me a consistent two word message - Trust Me.

In December, I submitted my resignation to the Board and so now we embark on a search for my successor. I remain committed to SYFC until the end of June to help finish the ministry year and to assist in the transition to a new ED.

I wish to personally thank the many partners who have enabled me to serve with YFC for nearly three decades. May God bless you for having served YFC alongside me. We are unsure of our next step in our ministry lives but are praying that we will receive clarity and direction on that in the next few months.
Please pray for Alison and myself as we trust God in the journey ahead. Please continue to stand with us. I will do my best to keep you informed.

For the past month I along with the Board have been diligently working with our national office clarifying the vision, mission and strategy of SYFC and putting the transition process into action.  Beginning in February the Board will be advertising the position of Executive Director with the goal of identifying our next leader by May.

Over the past few years, Gil has been intentionally delegating some leadership responsibilities to the staff team of SYFC so that when this time came for him to move on, the ministry of SYFC would continue to flourish. We remain committed to the vision of reaching every youth and trust God will lead SYFC to even greater success to realizing this vision.

At this point Gil and Alison are not certain of their future plans but we believe that God has other ministry plans for them. We would ask you to pray for them as they discern God’s call upon their lives

We thank you for your continued support for SYFC. As supporters, we invite you to pray for the Board and the Staff during this transition period as we seek God’s provision of a new leader. .
