YFCHL National Champions!
I am continually surprised by how much our little YFCHL league means to the students that are involved. This year we had the opportunity to partner together with YFC chapters from Winnipeg and Edmonton to participate in the inaugural YFCHL National tournament. The idea of participating in such a tournament brought out feelings of excitement, fear and a deep sense of legacy in our boys. A legacy that they felt they needed to defend. I remember one student saying “This is our crown to defend, we are not only representing our league but we are representing the players that came before us that we all looked up too.” There was a lot of pressure to succeed and to show the other leagues we were the best, and we did not disappoint.
It was a lot of work to get to Edmonton for this tournament but so many people came alongside, whether it was donating snacks, giving us gym time to practice or donating funds so we could purchase new jerseys for the tournament. We looked sharp and played even sharper winning the best of 3 Final in a 2 game sweep to claim the title as the first ever YFCHL National Champions.
I am so thankful to God for the ability to have shared experiences like these with these boys. Experiences that we will remember for a lifetime, experiences that build that bond and earn that trust to be heard.
