PS09 NICARAGUA
In February of 2009, 12 students and 3 adult leaders will journey to the country of Nicaragua, in the heart of Central America. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The effects of political corruption, war, and natural disasters have taken their toll on this remarkable country. The poverty is extreme, but the Nicaraguan people are some of the most beautiful and generous people you will ever encounter.
Our primary project will be to complete construction of a house for a needy family in the small agricultural community of Veracruz. Daily tasks will include digging and sifting sand, mixing the cement by hand, and basic cinder block construction. Our recipient family has been close to us for many years. We are honoured to build a new house for this family.
The team will also work with over 80 children in the local Veracruz orphanage. Besides showing these children an extra measure of love and care, the team will also distribute greatly needed clothes, toys and school supplies. This 12 day adventure will allow the students to experience the joy of serving God and others, a lesson which they will bring back home.
Thank you for your partnership in our mission. Our prayer is that through this experience, God will do His transforming work in us and in those we encounter. Your support gives these amazing young people the tools they need to become history makers. Blessings!
